Small Firms Are Statistically The Most Vulnerable To Cybertheft

A familiar misconception about firewalls and security appliances is that small businesses don’t need them – but this is a woefully uninformed conclusion. In reality, small businesses are far more likely to be targets for hackers since they generally have less effective security protocols in place, and hence are easier targets.

More than half of all cyber attacks are committed against small businesses, and – sadly – more than half of those fold within six months of a successful cyber attack, according to this report from INC.com’s Joe Galvin.

Cyber attacks like this happen every day, and small firms are statistically the most vulnerable.

If your business stores protected information like phone numbers, social security numbers, email addresses, etc., neglecting your network’s security becomes a massive liability.

A Firewall Or Security Appliance Is Only As Good As Its Last Update

Hackers and cyber criminals use a continually evolving set of skills to access secured systems. This includes taking advantage of out-of-date software and hardware.

That’s why programmers, security auditors and penetration testers are always seeking vulnerabilities in their own hardware – and once they find those vulnerabilities, they publish updates that should automatically be downloaded and installed by your firewall.

If you company’s firewall falls into this category, it’s almost certain that you are more vulnerable to cyber attack now than you have ever been.

Cybersecurity Is An Ongoing Effort

The security of your firm is not a “set it and forget it” proposition – it requires an ongoing effort from you and our cybersecurity team. Allowing any updates or audits to lapse can open your business up to liability lawsuits, and we are committed to not allowing that to happen.

Expect us to meet with you several times per year to discuss the cyber threat landscape, especially wherein crypto-viruses, phishing scams and internal threats are concerned.
